NEET PG 2024 Exam to Proceed as Scheduled:
The petition to postpone the August 11, 2024, NEET PG 2024 was rejected by the Supreme Court of India on August 9, 2024. The petitioners asked for a postponement and listed additional difficulties that candidates face, but the Court maintained its decision.
Petitioners Highlight NEET PG Candidate Inconvenience:
The petitioners expressed their frustration with the test cities’ selection, saying it inconvenienced the candidates. Also, they questioned the National Board of Examinations (NBE) decision to conduct the NEET PG test in two shifts, arguing that this would cause problems.
The petitioners requested the implementation of a normalization formula to ensure fairness between the two shifts.

Court’s Stance on the NEET PG Case:
The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JV Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, presided over the case. The bench hesitated to consider the request when Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioners, pointed out that the test had already been delayed once, from June to August. Chief Justice Chandrachud remarked, “So many problems in the country, now to reschedule the PG Exam.”
Concerns About Fair NEET PG Exam Environment:
Hegde urged the Court to focus on his second request, conducting the exam in a single batch to ensure a uniform and fair testing environment. However, the bench observed that only 5 students out of more than 200,000 had filed the petition.
Despite Hegde’s claim that the demand had broader support, the Court refused to jeopardize the certainty of the exam for the majority.

Travel Challenges Raised by Petitioners:
The petitioners argued that the allocation of NEET PG test cities, announced on July 31, 2024, left students with little time to arrange travel to their designated centers. They pointed out that the short notice had led to a lack of available train tickets and soaring airfare prices due to dynamic pricing, making travel difficult for many students.
Court’s Final Decision on NEET PG Exam Postponement:
The Supreme Court bench decided against postponing the NEET PG 2024 exam, emphasizing the need for certainty in the process. The Court also dismissed previous pleas seeking the reduction of the NEET UG 2024 examination over allegations of a paper leak, stating that there was insufficient evidence to suggest a systemic issue.
