Decisions on New PG Medical Courses and Seat Increases:
Significant updates in postgraduate (PG) medical education in India were recently released by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
NMC published its final decision about 143 applications from 28 medical colleges on May 30th, 2024. For the 2024–2025 academic year, these applications aimed to start new PG medical courses and increase seats in existing courses.

Communication of Decisions:
The NMC emailed the respective medical institutes, informing them of its judgments. It expects medical colleges to take the necessary actions based on these decisions within the stipulated timeline.
NMC’s Recent Decisions on PG Medical Course Applications:
The NMC recently announced significant updates for PG medical education in India. On May 30th, 2024, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) published its final decision on 143 applications from 28 medical colleges for the 2024–2025 academic year.

Of these, 107 applications were for starting new PG medical courses, while 36 aimed to increase seats in existing courses. This follows earlier communications from MARB, which, through a series of notices in April and May 2024, had already informed medical institutions of decisions regarding 608 online PG medical course applications.
Previous Notifications:
This announcement follows previous decisions made by the NMC:
- On April 28, 2024, NMC sent final decisions to 18 medical colleges for 101 applications
- On May 4, 2024, NMC issued another notice to 31 medical institutes for 153 applications
- By May 21, 2024, NMC had communicated decisions for 608 online applications (436 for new courses and 172 for seat increases)
Future Communications:
The NMC has agreed to notify the remaining applicants of its conclusions when appropriate. The Competent Authority authorized this announcement.
