NEET UG Counselling Will Continue As Scheduled?
On Thursday, the Supreme Court decided not to halt the counselling process for admissions to medical colleges through the NEET UG 2024 exam. According to Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti, counselling will also be invalid if the court eliminates the NEET UG 2024 exam. They responded to a request from students who said they missed 45 minutes of the exam centers in Meghalaya. On July 8, the Court will hear relevant petitions.
Supreme Court’s Decision On NEET UG Counselling:
The Supreme Court said that there shall be no halt in NEET UG counselling for candidates to medical colleges. In addition, the Court is hearing many complaints, one of which involves claims of a NEET UG paper leak. It had been ordered that the National Testing Agency (NTA) answer these allegations.
NEET UG Exam Complaints About Irregularities:
Many students have publicly expressed their frustration with irregularities in the NEET UG exam, particularly regarding the compensatory marks awarded for lost time. The results, released on June 4, revealed an unusually high percentage of perfect scores, sparking speculation and doubt among candidates and the general public.
Political Reactions to NEET UG Paper Leak:
In Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha accused RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav’s aide of involvement in the NEET UG paper leak. RJD’s Manoj Jha dismissed these claims as fake and a conspiracy to defame a government employee. Jha demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and called for the abolition of the NTA.
NEET UG 2024 Re-Test Controversy:
The Supreme Court also addressed the re-test scheduled for June 23 for 1563 candidates who were previously granted grace marks. The NTA revoked the decision to award grace marks and offered a re-test instead. Justices SVN Bhatti and Vikram Nath addressed a writ petition challenging their decision. While the Court sent out a notification about the petition, it refused to delay the retest and set its next hearing for July 8.
Legal Proceedings Centralized by the Supreme Court:
On Thursday, June 20, the Supreme Court halted proceedings in petitions filed in Rajasthan, Calcutta, and Bombay High Courts concerning the alleged paper leak. NEET UG 2024 exam conducted on May 5 this year.

A vacation bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti issued the order while also issuing a notice on a transfer petition filed by the NTA. The NTA aims to transfer these petitions from the High Courts to the Supreme Court for consolidated adjudication.
