NEET UG 2024: Candidates Contest Re-Exam Decision in Supreme Court

Students Oppose Re-Conduction of NEET UG:

Two NEET UG 2024 candidates, Ms. Kritika Garg and Ms. Priyanjali Garg, have approached the Supreme Court to oppose the decision to re-conduct the exam.

They argue that it is unfair to force all students to retake the exam due to the alleged malpractice by a few.

The applicants argue that re-examination would impose undue challenges on students and their families, particularly those who have dedicated years of preparation for the NEET UG exam.

Re-conducting the NEET UG Exam Would Be Unfair:

The intervention application highlights that NEET UG is one of the toughest competitive exams. Kritika and Priyanjali, residents of Meerut who scored 705 and 690 marks, respectively, assert that re-conducting the exam would be unfair to the majority of students who achieved their scores through hard work.

The application emphasizes that scrapping the entire exam process due to allegations of malpractice would be unjust for the majority, who performed well based on merit.

Response to Writ Petition on NEET UG 2024 Results:

The applicants filed this application in response to a Writ Petition seeking the recall of NEET UG 2024 results and a fresh exam for all students due to alleged paper leaks and other malpractices.

A vacation bench consisting of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued a notice regarding this petition on June 13. Kritika and Priyanjali argue that the allegations of malpractice likely involve only a small number of students compared to the total number of students who took the NEET UG exam honestly.

Exam Fairness and Impact on Students:

The applicants claim that punishing every student will result in severe discomfort and anguish, especially for those who have worked hard to get top marks.

They state that merely because the cut-off has risen, it cannot be grounds to challenge the entire exam.

They addressed concerns about the physics question paper having more than one correct answer, noting that this is a common issue in competitive exams and can be managed.

Call for Judicial Relief:

Kritika and Priyanjali stated that retaking the NEET UG 2024 would severely disadvantage deserving students who, like them, studied hard and passionately to achieve their desired results. Advocate on Record (AoR) Sanchit Garga filed a case asking the Supreme Court to provide relief from the decision to re-conduct the examination.
