NEET UG Candidates Challenge Exam Cancellation:
Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2024 examination, candidates have filed a plea in the Supreme Court. They request a re-evaluation of the OMR sheets instead of canceling the May 5, 2024 exam.
The petitioners argue that canceling the exam would cause “severe injustice” and seriously affect candidates who had thoroughly prepared and appeared for the exam.
Canceling NEET UG 2024 Violates Rights, Seek Re-evaluation:
The petitioners claim that canceling NEET UG 2024 would be an “arbitrary decision” violating their fundamental rights under Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Indian Constitution.
They contend that cancellation would prejudice deserving candidates and benefit only a few. Instead, they propose a NEET UG 2024 results re-evaluation to address issues like rank inflation and the increase in the number of toppers.
Plea Raises Concerns Over Post-Deadline Registrations:
The plea highlights that this year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) allowed 24,000 candidates to register after the initial deadline. The petitioners express concerns about possible tampering with these newly added candidates’ OMR sheets.
They asked the Supreme Court to order the NTA to examine the OMR sheets of candidates who registered after the deadline and to review all of the candidates’ sheets.
