Is NEET UG Counselling Delayed?
The National Board of Examinations (NBE) has deferred the NEET UG 2024 counselling until further notice. This delay follows the Supreme Court’s refusal to postpone the NEET UG counselling, initially scheduled to start on July 6. The all-India quota (AIQ) seat counselling set to commence today has also been postponed, with no new date announced.
NEET UG 2024 Allegations and Court Proceedings:
The Center and National Testing Agency (NTA) acknowledged allegations of irregularities and paper leaks during the NEET UG exam. However, they informed the Supreme Court that canceling the exam was unnecessary, as only a “minuscule” number of students were involved. They said that the interests of the 23 lakh students who took the examination honestly should not be compromised.

In affidavits submitted to the apex court, the Center and NTA stated that irregularities were limited to a few centers in Patna and Godhra. They asserted that the students involved did not gain any undue advantage.
NEET UG Retest and Marks Controversy:
The NEET UG exam faced accusations of irregularities, including alleged paper leaks and questionable marking practices.
This led to widespread anger and demonstrations nationwide. As a result, some students were ordered to retake the NEET UG exam, and the NEET PG exam was postponed.
To address concerns about inflated scores from ‘grace marks,’ authorities conducted a retest on June 23 for 1563 affected candidates. Among them, 813 chose to participate in the retest to obtain scores that accurately reflected their performance, while 48% of the affected candidates opted to retain their original scores without the controversial grace marks.
The NEET UG 2024 counselling process, including the all-India quota (AIQ) seat allocation, has been postponed indefinitely.
