The Maharashtra government is preparing to ask the National Medical Commission (NMC) to cancel the NEET 2024 exam due to reports of “shocking” results and a paper leak. Hasan Mushrif, the State Minister of Medical Education, confirmed this on Friday.
Calls for CBI Inquiry and NEET UG Grace Marks Controversy:
The parents of aspiring medical students are calling for an urgent stop to the MBBS admissions process, as are groups of medical schools and doctors. They are also demanding that the NEET UG results be the subject of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry. The claims that many students received grace marks in the absence of a defined policy are at the core of the debate.
And also, Mushrif raised concerns about the validity of the results, claiming that bribery had an impact on the results. Just two participants out of 720 last year received full marks. Grace marks helped a few students obtain full marks this year, he said. He went on to say that because of the twisted results, no student from Maharashtra would be able to get into a government or private medical college.
Protests and Legal Actions Regarding NEET UG:
On June 4, 2024, the NEET scorecards were released. It turned out that 67 students had achieved All India Rank 1, which raised questions about possible paper leaks. The percentage of students who received full marks, which appeared odd under the NEET evaluating method, also raised concerns. Doubts were raised even further when reports revealed that several students from the same center received the top spots.

In response, candidates for medical schools staged protests in Kanpur, Varanasi, and Lucknow, ranting anti-National Testing Agency (NTA) slogans. Both the Patna High Court and the Supreme Court have received pleas for a new NEET UG 2024 exam as well as a CBI inquiry into the irregularities.
Government Response and Panel Formation:
The Education Ministry has set up a panel to reevaluate the scores of more than 1,600 students who got grace marks in the NEET UG 2024 exam, the NTA reported during all the fuss. Under the direction of a former UPSC chairperson, this four-person team would look into any possible exam irregularities.

Considering a plea alleging various irregularities in the NEET 2024 examination, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to file an affidavit within 10 days in response.
A Division Bench presided over by Justice Apurba Sinha Ray issued the notice to the agency in charge of conducting NEET, asking the NTA to disclose in its affidavit how it has followed the reservation policy of the state and the Central Government in preparing the merit list.
