NEET UG Retest Adds Complexity:
In an unexpected twist of events, over half of the candidates scheduled to retake the NEET UG exam on June 23, 2024, chose not to participate again. This latest development adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious situation surrounding NEET UG.
Low Turnout for NEET UG Retest:
According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), only 813 applicants out of 1563 took the NEET UG retest. This shows that 750 candidates (48%) did not show up for the reexamination. The retest aimed to make up for the time that was lost during the exam on May 5 because of several irregularities.

In Jajjar centers, attendance was particularly low, with only 58.09% of candidates showing up. Out of 494 candidates, only 287 attended the retest.
NEET UG Exam Under Scrutiny Amid Paper Leak Allegations:
Because of allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities, the NEET UG exam is currently under careful review. The NTA maintains the security of its online portals despite these concerns, saying, “The NTA website and all of its web portals are safe. Any information that has been hacked or compromised is untrue and fraudulent.”

But the continuous criticism and calls for openness remained unabated, despite the NTA’s assurances. Nationwide, authorities have debarred 30 centers in Godhra and 17 candidates from Bihar due to allegations of malpractice.
Arrests and Legal Appeals Intensify NEET UG Controversy:
Following the arrest of 13 people in Bihar, including four examinees and their families, the controversy surrounding NEET UG intensified. Brokers involved in the NEET UG paper leak scams charged between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 50 lakh from each medical candidate in exchange for earlier access to the question papers, according to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police.
Numerous appeals have been filed with the Supreme Court and High Courts requesting an inquiry into the paper leak scam. Certain petitioners are demanding a retest and calling for the cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 exam.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who initially denied the paper leak allegations, has recently assured that action will be taken against any NTA officials found guilty of irregularities.
