No Mass Malpractice In NEET UG 24 As Per Data Analytics: The Center Tells SC

Government Affidavit Denies NEET UG 2024 Malpractice:

In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the Union Government contends that there was no widespread malpractice during the NEET UG 2024 examination.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) conducted data analytics that supported the Center’s claims, which indicated normal mark distribution patterns typical of large-scale exams.

IIT Madras Analysis Supports Fair Exam Conduct:

The affidavit states that IIT Madras carried out an extensive technological evaluation of the NEET UG 2024 exam data. The mark distribution study showed a bell-shaped curve, which is characteristic of large-scale exams. This pattern did not point to any abnormalities or widespread malpractice.

“There is neither any indication of mass malpractice nor a localized set of candidates being benefited, leading to abnormal scores,” stated the experts’ report from IIT Madras, which was included in the Center’s affidavit.

Supreme Court’s Concern Over NEET UG Exam Sanctity:

During the hearing on July 8th, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud led a bench that sought responses from the Union and the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the extent of the alleged paper leak and the potential segregation of wrongdoers from honest candidates.

The Court indicated that a re-test might be necessary if it proved impossible to distinguish between beneficiaries of fraud and honest candidates. However, it emphasized that this would be a last resort due to the impact on almost 24 lakh students.

The Supreme Court posts the NEET UG matter for next Thursday (July 18). The SC grants the adjournment to enable the parties to file their responses to the affidavits filed by the Center and Union.

Increase in the NEET UG Marks Explained:

The Center’s affidavit addressed concerns about a surge in marks, particularly in the 550–720 range. This surge, observed in several cities and centers, resulted from a 25% decrease in the syllabus.

The spread of high-scoring candidates across several locales further showed a minimal chance of coordinated misconduct.

Commitment to NEET UG Exam Integrity:

The Center confirmed its dedication to maintaining a strict and transparent examination process free from unlawful conduct like paper leaks, cheating, or impersonation.

The affidavit highlighted how important it is to defend the rights of the vast majority of students who took the exam honestly and with dedication

“The Union of India is committed towards making a robust examination process for conducting all competitive examinations in a fair and transparent manner, which is completely insulated from any kind of room for criminally minded people, for perpetrating any kind of malpractice in the examination process, such as impersonation, cheating, or paper-leak,” stated the affidavit.

Previous Stance Against NEET UG 2024 Cancellation:

In previous instances, the Center and the NTA filed affidavits that denied the demand to cancel the NEET UG 2024 exam, claiming that malpractice cases were isolated events and not widespread.

The Center maintains that it has upheld the NEET UG 2024 exam’s integrity and has proper processes to address any cases of malpractice, even as the Supreme Court continues to investigate the case.
