Centre Announces Cancellation of Grace Marks for NEET UG 2024 Candidates:
On June 13, the Center informed the Supreme Court that they would cancel the grace marks given to 1563 NEET UG 2024 candidates. To maintain exam fairness, these students will have the chance to retake the NEET UG exam.
Cancellation of Grace Marks:
On June 12, the National Testing Agency (NTA) panel decided to remove the grace marks. The panel determined that awarding compensatory marks to 1563 students, which were limited to unattempted questions, created a “skewed situation.” Union Government lawyer Kanu Agarwal presented this decision to the Supreme Court.
NEET UG Re-Exam Option for Affected Students:
The 1563 affected students will be informed of their actual scores without the grace marks and offered a re-test. Those who choose not to take the NEET UG re-exam will retain their actual marks without the grace marks based on the original exam held on May 5.
This decision aims to ease the students’ fears and provide a fair assessment of their performance.
Supreme Court’s Order:
The vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta represented the Supreme Court, which took note of the submissions and issued an order. The petitioner argued against the awarding of grace marks, prompting the court to recognize the NTA’s subsequent review.

Petitions and Allegations About NEET UG Exam:
Due to multiple discrepancies, including the granting of grace marks, the Court considered three petitions challenging the NEET UG 2024 results.
Alakh Pandey, the CEO of Physics Wallah. He submitted the first petition, arguing that the NTA’s decision to provide grace marks was arbitrary.
In their second appeal, Abdullah Mohammed Faiz and Dr. Shaik Roshan Mohiddin from SIO requested the recall of the NEET UG 2024 results due to suspected paper leaks.
Jaripiti Kartheek, a NEET UG candidate, challenged the distribution of grace marks for time lost during the exam in the third appeal.
